Hi, my name is Brian and I'm a software developer. Currently I am the Director of Software Design and Development for Tamman - a design consultancy in Old City specializing in Rails and .NET applications. I'm also a TA and occasional instructor for Girl Develop It, a member of PhilaMade and Indy Hall, and general lover of things in the Philadelphia communityWhen I'm not doing that I cook, homebrew, bbq competatively, and more recently
kill plants .
This site is my stab at getting back in to writing about what I do again after a long hiatus. Opinions here are personal and not necessarily endorsed by any organization I'm involved with.
Process Antipatterns Aug 10
The problem with antipatterns is that they feel like a good idea. Even if I identify an antipattern seductive reasoning can prevent me from dealing with it. This creeps up a lot and unless I focus my efforts bad decisions will make work harder than it needs to be.
Back to writing Aug 3
I tell a lot of people they should blog. I consider it important to write as much as you can as a developer - it helps you understand what you're doing better if you try to explain it to others… not to mention that it's a great way to give back to the community. I have - generally - failed miserably at following my own advice. It's been almost a year since I've written a post - close to three since I've had my own blog going. I've wanted to get back to writing for some time now but told myself I couldn't find the time.
Love me for my mind
Sorry this hasn't been styled yet. I'd promise to get around to it soon but I like you all enough to not want to lie to you.
